(OOC-Don't reply, please-this is just to show that Katrina is on her own now.)
Katrina turned one last time to look at the house she had grown up in. Even in the moonlight she could clearly see the colors and the details that were all she wanted to remember of her time here. The ivory-colored steps, the gentle reds of the many bricks...
For a moment a spasm of fear went through her. Was this a good idea? This house was all she knew, and she remembered. But Sandy was in there, and Mocha had already left; there was nothing to tie the girl to this place and plenty to make her leave.
A suitcase dragged quietly behind her and she carried a backpack; in them was food, three field quides, some medicine, several changes of clothes, a tent, seeds, some photos, and some books. She was ready to go, and the sooner the better. She had already left the note on the dining room table, and Sandy would no doubt go crazy and send out about fifty search parties. She'd have to be far away by then.
On her way out Katrina collected the collar Mocha-who was once her cat and now a loner-had left for her. She turned one more time, taking it all in, before turning and walking away, into the unknown, into life, no longer looking back.
It was time. She was no longer caged, no longer tied to Sandy.
She was free.
